Program.AR in a book

In 2023 Program.AR turned 10 years old thanks to the support of the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Argentina and the network of alliances built with 24 Argentine provinces.

Our work

Leadership in CS education policy and program development

Increasingly, more national and international organizations reach out to us for advice and technical training. These organizations include: Department of Education in different Argentinean states, UNICEF, IIPE UNESCO, Uruguay (Plan Ceibal), Chile (Kodea), Costa Rica (Omar Dengo), Paraguay (Paraguay Educa), Brazil (Center for Educational Innovation).

Program.AR offers:

  • Technical advice.
  • Design of customized teacher professional development programs.
  • Support in the implementation of computer science curricular reforms.
  • Gender perspective awareness strategies.

Remote Computer Science teaching program

Since 2018, Program.ar offers weekly synchronous Computational Thinking lessons to 16,000 Uruguayan primary school students. Teachers work remotely from Argentine as computer science teacher while they are in class with their classroom teacher. This program contributes to alleviating the lack of computer science teachers in the country.

Program.ar’s tasks in this project are:

  • Design lesson plans.
  • Hire and train Argentine computer science teachers who will teach these lessons.
  • Develop co-teaching partnerships between the Argentine computer science teacher and the Uruguayan classroom teacher.

CS teacher development programs

Program.AR works with public and private organizations to design and offer CS teacher professional development programs.

Program.AR designs and offers teacher training courses for:

  • Future teachers interested in CS education.
  • Practicing teachers who want to introduce notions of computing in the classroom.
  • Teacher trainers who need to update themselves in computer science teaching.
  • Supervision and management teams, ICT facilitators who lead and plan digital transformations.
  • Officials and technical teams to promote CS in the educational system.

Teaching resources

With the purpose of helping teachers, Program.AR designed different resources to teach computing in the classroom, for different audiences and educational levels.

Program.AR develope:

  • Workbooks and textbooks for teachers of all educational levels.
  • Pilas Bloques, an app to teach programming at school in a simple and fun way.
  • Digital repository of open educational resources
for teachers, organized by educational levels and areas of knowledge
  • Unplugged resources on programming to bring this knowledge closer to kindergarten.

CS workshops aimed at children, adolescents and youth

Since 2013, Program.AR has developed strategies to promote interest in careers and topics related to computing with a focus on women and diversities.

Program.ar offers:

  • Workshops in schools on programming, artificial intelligence, videogames and computer security to awaken vocations and promote the participation of women and diversities in careers related to Computer Sciences.
  • Design and development of the Estudiar Computación site, to promote computer careers.
  • Participation in public events to bring students closer to computer content and experiences.
