Increasingly, more national and international organizations reach out to us for advice and technical training. These organizations include: Department of Education in different Argentinean states, UNICEF, IIPE UNESCO, Uruguay (Plan Ceibal), Chile (Kodea), Costa Rica (Omar Dengo), Paraguay (Paraguay Educa), Brazil (Center for Educational Innovation).
Program.AR has offered:
- Technical advice.
- Training programs.
- Teacher professional development program designs.
- Support on CS curriculum reform implementation.
Communication contributes to developing a vision that CS education serves two purposes; developing a critical, participatory and sovereign citizenship and contributing to a value added economic development.
Some communication actions include:
- 8 forums with educational communities (1500 participants).
- Press releases.
- Participation at public events such as national fairs.
Since 2018 Program.ar offers weekly synchronous Computational Thinking lessons to 16000 elementary school uruguayan students. Teachers work remotely and students received a video conference from the Argentinean CS teacher while in the class with their classroom teacher. This program contributes to ease the lack of CS teachers in the country.
Program.ar tasks on this project:
- Designs lesson plans.
- Hires and trains Argentinean CS teachers who will teach these lessons.
- Manages the course distribution among the teachers.
- Develop co-teaching partnerships between the Argentinean CS teacher and the Uruguayan classroom teacher.
- Offered 3 to 4 two months long educational projects yearly that integrate a school's traditional content with programming, hardware, software and digital citizenship.
Program.AR has strategically worked with Public Universities to offer teacher professional development programs with several goals: 1) developing local expertise on teacher training that can remain beyond a government term, 2) promoting research groups on CS education that can help with program analysis and advice 3) recognizing the content knowledge expertise in our country, 4) increasing our capacity to train teachers across the country
Program.AR designed and provided teacher training courses for:
- Public universities professors and advanced CS students in more than 40 universities in the county offer CS education courses to elementary and high school teachers across the country.
- School leaders, supervisors, principals, and IT school facilitators so they can lead school implementation and support the teachers.
- Beginner teachers with a four year teacher preparation program on CS education developed together with the National Pedagogic University.
- Current teachers who want to teach CS with 8 masters on CS education programs developed together with public universities and teacher preparation institutions.
With the purpose of helping teachers, Program.AR designed different resources to teach CS in the classroom.
- Apps to introduce CS programming to children (Pilas Bloques).
- Apps to introduce CS to teenagers (Gobstones).
- Workbooks and textbooks for elementary and high school teachers that follow an inquiry-project based and spiral based curriculum.
